The Onsen Egg adds a lucrative micro‑economy element to Heartopia, encouraging players to engage with the seasonal event and the game’s cooking system. Its high resale value drives in‑game trading activity and boosts overall player retention during the winter period.
Heartopia’s Winter Frost Event has become a cornerstone of the game’s seasonal content strategy, blending exploration, collection, and crafting into a single loop that keeps players logged in for weeks. By scattering colorful cracked eggs across the map, the event creates a treasure‑hunt dynamic that rewards curiosity and map knowledge. The culmination of this hunt is the Onsen Egg recipe, a rare cooking item that stands out because it strips the usual three‑ingredient requirement down to a single, easily obtained egg. This simplification lowers the entry barrier while still delivering a sense of achievement.
The cooking mechanic for the Onsen Egg is deliberately tied to Heartopia’s natural hot‑spring locations, reinforcing the game’s environmental storytelling. Players must purchase the egg from Massimo, who sets up shop near the Winter Utopia bus stop for the event’s duration, then head to the submerged baskets beside the Onsen Mountain hot springs. The water‑based cooking prevents burning, allowing multiple baskets to operate in parallel and delivering a steady stream of three‑star eggs that sell for roughly 260 gold each. This high resale price creates a micro‑economy where savvy players can quickly amass wealth.
From a design perspective, the Onsen Egg exemplifies how limited‑time content can generate both engagement and revenue without relying on direct purchases. By embedding a lucrative crafting loop within a seasonal quest, Heartopia incentivizes repeat play, social trading, and community discussion around optimal cooking spots. Developers can replicate this formula in future events, swapping ingredients or locations to keep the experience fresh while preserving the core loop that drives player retention and in‑game economic activity.

The Heartopia Winter Frost Event is in full swing, and if you’ve spent the time hunting down every colorful cracked egg during it, you’ll now be the owner of 16 egg sculptures and a brand‑new recipe. The egg hunt sent you around the world of Heartopia, specifically Onsen Mountain, which is the heart of the festive fun.
Now that you have your cracked eggs, you can enjoy your rewards, one of which is the recipe for an Onsen Egg. Unlike regular recipes, this one calls for a very special way of cooking.

Heartopia has a variety of different recipes for the cooking hobby. Usually you’ll need at least three different ingredients—some you grow yourself in your garden, others you purchase from Massimo. The Onsen Egg, however, only needs one ingredient: the egg itself, which you buy from Massimo.
After purchasing the egg, head towards Onsen Mountain, specifically the hot springs. There is one right next to the Onsen Mountain bus stop. Upon arrival:
Locate the small baskets submerged in the water.
Approach a basket; an icon will appear above it. Interact with the basket to begin cooking your Onsen Egg.

The hot springs are the only area where you can cook this type of egg; they cannot be made in a regular cooker. Because the water prevents the egg from burning, you can cook an egg in each basket at the same time without worrying about ruining them.
A three‑star Onsen Egg can sell for around 260 gold.
