Completing the RAI/MPlane modernization and releasing a tested spec will accelerate vendor interoperability for RU/DU integrations, enabling broader ecosystem adoption of open-source radio interfaces and faster deployment of O-RAN compatible solutions. Clear governance, tooling, and a public website/testing environment reduce onboarding friction and increase the likelihood of production-ready implementations.
Members of the OCP Evenstar community reviewed progress on the RAI (Radio Abstraction Interface) and coordination with the Open MPlane project, reporting significant repo modernization, dependency upgrades, dockerization, and a new test suite and mock RU/DU simulations aimed at enabling vendor integration. Engagement with prior partner Massive Beams has stalled after their modular RU work, so the team is engaging Ariden and prioritizing integration with open-source DU projects (e.g., Durant, Kudu SRS) to drive toward a first MPlane release. The group plans to formalize an RAI spec by porting relevant libhal APIs into a new working group, share the draft in the coming weeks, and use the new openmplane.org site and an experience center dev setup for developer onboarding and testing. Other administrative items include finalizing a new mandate and publishing an AI computing continuum page and event participation details ahead of OCP Canada Tech Day in June.
