Why It Matters

The comments underscore the often-underappreciated impact of behind-the-scenes writers/producers on an album’s sound and commercial reach, and signal strong sync and radio potential for tracks like “Swim,” which can drive additional revenue and visibility.

Summary

Producer-songwriter Derrick Milano describes his creative process contributing to six songs on the album, improvising vocal ideas and channeling unorthodox influences like PartyNextDoor and Young Thug while collaborator P Dog assembled the parts. Milano says his background vocals were retained on one track and highlights his pride in standout cuts “Normal” — a vulnerable ballad — and “Swim,” which he notes has crossed into radio, retail and commercials. He frames the project as positive and motivational, celebrating that the records realized the artists’ vision and reflected well on his team. Milano credits teamwork and faith for the fast, instinctive workflow that produced multiple finished songs.

Original Description

When Derrick Milano first walked into a Los Angeles studio to work with BTS, he did not even know which songs he would be touching.
He only knew one thing: He did not want to arrive with the attitude of a hitmaker who already knew everything.
Instead, the Grammy-winning songwriter behind tracks for Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion approached the sessions as "a student."
That mindset eventually led Milano to become one of the most heavily involved contributors on BTS' latest studio album, "Arirang," participating in six tracks including "Hooligan," "Aliens," "Normal," "Merry-Go-Round," "Swim" and "2.0."
