Why It Matters

As trust declines in many public institutions, the summit offers practical measurement tools and a coalition of practitioners who can implement localized solutions—potentially improving civic cooperation, program effectiveness, and policy uptake. Strengthening trust at the community level could accelerate better outcomes across public services and social programs.

Summary

The 2026 Trust in Practice Summit in Chicago convened over 250 leaders to share tools and strategies for rebuilding trust within communities and institutions. Participants highlighted practical frameworks like the “trust map” to measure trust at micro levels and emphasized cross-institutional listening to local leaders. Speakers said the gathering fostered collaboration, momentum, and actionable resources for practitioners to apply in day-to-day community work. The summit framed trust-building as a local, relationship-driven process that can counter national narratives of division.
