Why It Matters

The event signals a strategic pivot toward locally led development that could reorient capital flows and policy priorities, attracting investors and partners aligned with scalable, accountable solutions. If implemented, these commitments could accelerate economic and social progress across the continent.

Summary

Leaders and stakeholders convened at Africa Exchange 2026 to chart a continent-led agenda for the next decade, emphasizing Africa as a driver—not just a recipient—of global progress. After three days of discussions and a year of planning, participants outlined priorities across health, food, education and energy governance, and framed action around money, markets and mindsets. Proposals include a collaborative ‘playbook’ for development actors, a Mission 300 investment focus to scale transformative projects, and a commitment to continuous learning and accountability. The conference underscored bold thinking and a shift toward African ownership of development pathways.

Original Description

AfricaXchange 2026 centred on a question that feels more urgent than ever: how do we move from aid and dependency to agency and partnership?
Over three days in Nairobi, more than 350 people from philanthropy, government, development institutions, business and civil society came together from over 25 countries, to explore what locally led development can look like in practice.
This year’s theme, “Money, Markets & Mindsets”, got to the heart of the challenge: unlocking capital for African priorities, building markets where local solutions can grow, and shifting the mindsets that have too often shaped what is seen as possible.
The conversations were practical, honest and focused on action, from how domestic resources can play a bigger role, to how businesses can scale solutions in health, food and energy, to how partnerships can be built on mutual respect.
Africa’s next chapter will not be shaped by perfect plans. It will be shaped by the courage to act, invest and lead differently.
