Govt to Allocate RM20mil to Upgrade Federal Highway Motorcycle Lane, Says Nanta
Why It Matters
Upgrading the lane seeks to reduce flooding-related hazards and accidents and to steer thousands of riders back onto the dedicated corridor, easing pressure on main traffic lanes; the scheme could be a model for similar motorcycle-lane investments nationwide.
Summary
The government is allocating RM20 million to a major upgrade of the 24 km motorcycle lane on the Federal Highway (FT002), covering Petaling and Klang with most works in Petaling. The project—started last year under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) and carried into RMK-13—includes comprehensive drainage repairs, structural upgrades and the installation of more than 800 solar streetlights (about RM6 million of the budget). Works are about 43% complete and are targeted for completion in August. Officials say the overhaul is more than routine maintenance and aims to make the lane safer and more usable for the highway’s heavy motorcyclist traffic.
