Why It Matters

By targeting SMEs—which make up the vast majority of Singapore firms and employ two-thirds of the workforce—SAIA could materially speed national AI adoption, protect jobs through upskilling, and help the government meet its National AI Impact Program goals. Its feedback loop to policymakers also promises more practical, demand-driven AI support programs.

Summary

The newly launched Singapore Artificial Intelligence Association (SAIA) aims to accelerate AI adoption among SMEs by bridging industry needs, workforce development and policy. SAIA emphasizes human-centered implementation—job redesign, reskilling and capability building—rather than just technology deployment. It offers an AI Discovery Clinic and a simple transformation toolkit to diagnose SME pain points and connect them to consultants, training and industry playbooks. SAIA positions itself as a neutral convener and force multiplier that channels ground-level insights to policymakers and partners.

Original Description

Different voices across Singapore's artificial intelligence landscape are coming together under a new industry platform. The Singapore Artificial Intelligence Association (SAIA) aims to accelerate adoption for businesses — especially among small- and medium-size enterprises — and improve collaboration between public and private players. Together with AI Singapore and Lifelong Learning Singapore, the association will also offer workplace training for mid-career professionals. CNA spoke with SAIA CEO Kenny Tay and SAIA president Jonathan Zhang.
