KnownOrigin was a pioneering crypto-art marketplace launched in 2018, turning blockchain-driven NFT minting into a way to prove ownership, provenance, and authenticity of digital artwork. It began with a pop-up in Manchester and evolved into a digital-first marketplace that attracted artists and collectors globally. The platform featured creator contracts, early access sales, and innovations in tokenized art, contributing to the growth of on-chain crypto-art history. In 2023–2024, KnownOrigin announced its closure as an active marketplace, but ensured that NFTs minted under its contracts would remain safe and accessible on secondary markets and via preservation efforts.
