We've never been given more tools than ever before to do our jobs in marketing. With the proliferation of AI everything should become easier, faster. And yet, I feel more overwhelmed than ever before in my entire adult working life which at this point is going on 18 years. Why? It's the explosion of AI and AI tools and what I should or shouldn't be using / trying / scaling. It's this FOMO of always being behind everyone else because the algos are pushing this style content out the fastest and every podcast, conference, and conversation starts and ends with AI and automation. It also keeps flagging that all yours job will be replaced by AI in 1 year. Combine all this and you have a overworked, stressed-out person trying to do the job they were hired to do, well. But always feel like it isn't enough because "AI." If this is you, know you're not alone. But I wanted to be a voice of reason and calm in the chaos. If you have done ANYTHING in AI, meaning if you even know how to do a prompt in Claude / Gemini / GPT you're already ahead of the pack. Reminder most of these new "tools" are just people with time on their hands trying and testing new ideas. Most embellish, few deliver. So while your feed haunts you with this automation tool, or a doomerism post declares your job is next. Know that for the most part this is mostly BS. The reality is we don't know and all these tools still need an expert running them. Focus on learning the basics and doing it well. Learn small skills in the time you have, but stay focused on what you're good at. I've become fully immersed in the AI side of my business but I'm not building SaaS tools, instead I'm looking for ways to automate tasks I do that I simply think having it automated would equal me being able to do other things (more important things) much better. And I believe that's the main point in all of this. Use AI to automate the things you hate so you can focus on the things you love more. Don't get wrapped up in "the next new thing" and instead just stay focused on your lane and your goals. Before you know it you're spending 6-8 hrs a day doing what you love, lowering your stress and FOMO, and realizing it was all a grift in your head.
As a person overseeing many of these tests for brands I can attest to this too. Applovin’s team have also been the quickest, most nimble at adapting to what DTC is requesting of them. Their teams go above and beyond over...
There is still a net benefit to having someone with an intricate knowledge of the creative and ad buying processes that AI can’t automate.
