Texas Winter Wheat Faces Catastrophic Failure, Harvest Doubtful
The latest crop ratings from @usda_nass shows just how tough things are in Texas with 54% of winter wheat rated poor to very poor. Another 31% is considered fair. I saw it firsthand last week in the Southern Plains. Wheat barely a foot tall… already pushing a flag leaf—rushing to reproduce under stress with little chance to make grain. One Texas Panhandle farmer told me less than 10% of acres in his area may even be harvested, and this included the irrigated wheat fields.
