Priming the Pump
The world is in its second energy crisis in five years, now in its third month. According to the IEA, 39 economies have rolled out at least one measure to shield households and firms from soaring energy prices. European governments are the most active, with 19 countries deploying price‑support tools such as tax cuts and subsidies, while nine Asian states have taken similar steps. Critics warn that these interventions raise fiscal burdens and blunt incentives for efficiency, and only a handful of policies actually curb consumption.
