Running Start! International and Domestic Box Office Record Best January Since 2020
International (excluding China) and domestic markets posted the strongest January since 2020, delivering $2.4 billion combined, 15% above 2025 and 10% above 2023. International box office contributed $1.76 billion, 66% of worldwide revenue, while the U.S. market posted $635 million, its first $100 million‑plus title in January since 2023. China lagged sharply with only $293 million, a 68% drop year‑on‑year and the weakest January since the pandemic began. The five top‑grossing releases—Avatar: Fire and Ash, Zootopia 2, The Housemaid, Marty Supreme and The SpongeBob Movie—accounted for $1.22 billion, roughly 45% of the month’s total.
