Independent Sector and the University of Maryland’s Do Good Institute announced that the national value of a volunteer hour has risen to $36.14, a 3.9% increase over 2024. The estimate, based on 2025 BLS wage data, applies to all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, with rates ranging from $17.99 in Puerto Rico to $54.77 in DC. Georgia saw the steepest growth, up 7.9% to $35.22 per hour. The release underscores that 75% of nonprofits consider volunteers essential, and 23% rely entirely on them.
