2 Million BEVs Registered in the UK
April marked a watershed for the UK auto market as the number of battery‑electric vehicles (BEVs) on the road topped two million. BEVs captured 26% of all new registrations in the month, a 55.6% year‑on‑year surge, while petrol and diesel sales fell. Chinese newcomer BYD briefly overtook Tesla for the first time, holding a 7.1% share of April BEV registrations. The market remains highly fragmented, with the top ten brands sharing roughly 60% of registrations and only a two‑percentage‑point gap between the leader and the tenth‑ranked maker.
