Ofcom announced new licence conditions requiring all local analogue commercial radio stations to broadcast mandatory local news bulletins. Weekday bulletins must air hourly between 6 am and 7 pm, with at least three bulletins on weekends and bank holidays, and stations previously exempt must comply by 2028. The regulator estimates the rule will add roughly £340,000 in annual costs, mainly affecting a small number of stations, while providing lighter obligations for those with turnover under £50,000. Physical presence of journalists in the broadcast area is required for news to be deemed locally gathered.
