What Is a Planetary Gear?
A planetary gearbox, also known as an epicyclic drive, uses a central sun gear, multiple planet gears, and an outer ring gear to share load and deliver high torque in a compact package. The arrangement provides efficiency often above 95% while reducing motor speed proportionally. It is commonly employed in robot arms, conveyor systems, and CNC machines to amplify the output of modest servo or stepper motors. However, friction and cumulative losses limit extreme gear ratios, as excessive reduction can cause overheating, stall, or impractically slow motion.
AI Infra Summit 2026
The AI Infra Summit 2026 convenes the world’s largest AI infrastructure community, drawing over 8,000 technical practitioners, analysts, and investors. Attendees will hear headline announcements from cloud giants and chip makers, including NVIDIA’s live launch of the Rubin CPX processor originally...
Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)
Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) lets robots create and navigate maps without GPS by fusing LiDAR, cameras, IMUs and wheel encoders. Modern SLAM favors graph‑based optimization, which scales better than early EKF approaches and supports real‑time pose estimation. Loop‑closure detection...
Beyond Cobots: Adaptive Robots for Dynamic Industrial Environments
Flexiv introduced its Rizon series, a line of adaptive industrial robots that blend AI-driven decision‑making with industrial‑grade force control. The robots can sense forces as low as 0.03 N, allowing delicate handling of unpredictable objects. Their Elements graphical interface lets users...
Competition Robot for FIRST Tech Challenge by Team The Clueless
The Clueless #11212 FTC team from San Diego unveiled its 2024‑2025 “Into the Deep” competition robot. The robot features an ultra‑compact 12″ × 12″ mecanum drivetrain, a turreted computer‑vision intake, and a dual‑motor counter‑spring hanging mechanism that completes the Level 3 endgame in...
Top Industrial Robots List – December 2025
RoboticMagazine.com released its Top Industrial Robots List for December 2025, ranking FANUC’s M/R‑series, ABB’s IRB 6700 and FANUC’s CRX cobot as the leading machines. The list, compiled through editorial research and AI‑weighted scoring, covers articulated, collaborative, SCARA and gantry robots from 20...
A Quick Look at Multirotor Drone Maneuverability
Multirotor drone maneuverability hinges on thrust‑to‑weight ratio, frame dynamics, propeller choice, motor characteristics, and control electronics. High thrust‑to‑weight ratios (up to 5:1) enable rapid attitude changes but sacrifice efficiency and flight time. Smaller, stiffer, and lighter frames reduce inertia, delivering...
Ground Robots Teaming with Soldiers in the Battlefield
Modern militaries are rapidly fielding ground robots, known as robotic combat vehicles or autonomous ground systems, to act as force multipliers for infantry units. Ukraine’s deployment of more than 150 Milrem THeMIS unmanned ground vehicles demonstrates the technology’s transition from...
