The funding validates market demand for standardized DER connectivity and positions Derapi to accelerate the energy transition. It gives utilities a faster path to unlock flexibility, resilience, and cost savings.
The distributed energy resources (DER) market is exploding as solar panels, battery storage, and electric vehicles proliferate across the grid. Yet utilities face a fragmented connectivity landscape, with each device often requiring bespoke integration, slowing deployment and inflating costs. Industry analysts estimate that by 2030 more than 30 GW of DER will be online in the United States, creating a pressing need for a unified, scalable interface that can translate diverse protocols into actionable grid services.
Derapi’s universal API platform directly addresses this pain point by acting as a single‑source connectivity layer. Built by engineers who previously shaped solutions at EnergyHub, Enphase, AutoGrid and Proterra, the software abstracts device‑level complexities and delivers manufacturer‑sanctioned integrations. This approach not only reduces time‑to‑market for utilities but also enhances reliability, allowing grid operators to orchestrate demand response, frequency regulation, and micro‑grid functions with greater confidence. The recent $7 million seed round, led by Earthshot Ventures and backed by a coalition of sustainability‑focused investors, provides the capital needed to scale the engineering team and expand go‑to‑market efforts.
The infusion of capital signals broader investor confidence in the “connectivity as a service” model for energy. As regulators push for greater DER participation and as corporate sustainability goals tighten, platforms like Derapi could become indispensable infrastructure, akin to the role of cloud APIs in software development. Competitors may emerge, but Derapi’s early mover advantage, deep talent pool, and strong investor network position it to capture a significant share of the emerging market for grid‑scale DER orchestration, potentially shaping the next phase of the global energy transition.
Derapi, a software platform for the distributed energy ecosystem, announced a $7 million seed round led by Earthshot Ventures. The round also included Tuesday Capital, Susquehanna Sustainable Investments, WYVC, Breakthrough Venture Capital, WovenEarth Ventures, Radicle Impact, Raisewell Ventures, E8 Angels, GreenSky Capital, Aurora Venture Investments, and existing backers UNION, Ubiquity Ventures, and M1C. Proceeds will fund team expansion and accelerate adoption of its universal API for DER connectivity.
