AI Model Beats General AI at Quantum Calibration
I fear the AI engineers are going to cook us, quantum. 13 institutions across industry, national labs, and academia, covering superconducting, neutral atom, and electron-on-helium hardware just released Ising Calibration 1 and QCalEval. It's a 35B parameter vision-language model (mixture of experts) fine-tuned specifically to read quantum calibration plots and decide what to do next. Rabi oscillations, Ramsey fringes, spectroscopy scans, readout histograms — the stuff every experimentalist has squinted at on a Tuesday at 2 AM trying to figure out why their qubit is misbehaving. The model gets 74.7 on QCalEval, beating the best general-purpose zero-shot model (Gemini 3.1 Pro at 72.3). A few thoughts:
Bitcoin's PQC Push Accelerates as Google Sets 2029 Deadline
The Bitcoin PQC response in three weeks has moved faster than any Bitcoin protocol debate I can remember. Quick timeline: On March 25, Google committed to a 2029 PQC migration for its own infrastructure. Interesting. (https://t.co/URQOT0SIld)

Free 1,500‑page Quantum Tech Bible, Updated Daily
Ok I have a new update for which book to read if you want to really understand quantum technology. CON: it's 1,524 pages and updated like, daily? PRO: it's free. No email required. No paywall. Just download the PDF. Olivier Ezratty...

Efficient MoE Models Threaten Data‑center‑centric AI
OpenAI paused Stargate UK. Before that, they walked away from expanding the Texas Stargate site. The reason? Energy costs, regulation, and they don't want to lock into last-generation chips at a site that won't come online for a year. Meanwhile Google...

Quantum Communication Can't Beat Light Speed
I thought we were over and done with it, but I may have to start posting "quantum cannot do faster than speed of light communication" every week or so again.
Hardware Advances Slash RSA Break Time to Minutes
Still a lot to build on the hardware side, but the last state of the art papers were stating about 8 hours to crack RSA, now it's 9 minutes. Lots of gates, lots of hardware, but we are seeing quite...
John Martinis' Inclusion Signals US Quantum Boom
I'm in DC this week, talking to legislators about quantum technology, and seeing John Martinis on this list bodes well for quantum research and commercialization in the US!
