Why It Matters

SmartStream’s AI‑powered reconciliation cuts operational costs and speeds decision‑making, giving banks a decisive efficiency advantage in a highly regulated market.

Key Takeaways

  • •SmartStream cut reconciliation time for major European bank.
  • •Leveraged existing client data to train proprietary AI algorithms.
  • •Internal AI engines identified and eliminated process bottlenecks quickly.
  • •Integrated SmartStream with other products for end‑to‑end acceleration.
  • •Faster inputs enabled organization to complete hours‑long tasks in minutes.

Summary

The video spotlights a SmartStream deployment at a large European bank, focusing on how the platform streamlines the notoriously time‑consuming reconciliation process. Roque Martinez explains that the bank sought to shrink the duration of reconciliations and improve overall workflow efficiency.

SmartStream leveraged data the bank already shared with the vendor, applying its internal AI engines to develop tailored algorithms that detect and resolve friction points. By tapping into existing datasets, the solution reduced manual interventions, cut the number of reconciliation breaks, and accelerated the end‑to‑end process dramatically.

Key remarks include, “we already have some of your data… let us use that… to come up with better algorithms,” and “we remove the friction to get reconciliations done faster.” The integration also pulled in complementary SmartStream products, allowing faster data inputs that transformed hour‑long tasks into minute‑scale operations.

The case illustrates how AI‑driven automation can overhaul legacy banking processes, delivering cost savings, operational agility, and a competitive edge for institutions grappling with complex, monolithic systems.

Original Description

FF News sat down for a chat with Roque Martinez, CTO at SmartStream RDU, to explore some real-life implementations of their services.
SmartStream RDU (Reference Data Utility) delivers comprehensive reference data management solutions to financial institutions, ensuring data accuracy and regulatory compliance for efficient operations.
“There is a large European bank, which is one of our largest clients, and they wanted to reduce the amount of time it takes to do reconciliations, manage their boxes, and manage their processes … We used some of our technology to reduce that friction that was there internally.”
“We remove the friction to get reconciliations done faster, but while doing that, we’ve also used some of our other products because they get faster inputs, and they’re able to do more within the organisation to complete the processes that were taking hours, which we’re doing a lot faster.”
