Lyten Completes Acquisition of Swedish Northvolt Units
US battery developer Lyten announced the completion of its near‑$5 billion acquisition of Northvolt Ett, the Ett Expansion in Skellefteå and Northvolt Labs in Västerås, Sweden. The deal, delayed several months, brings 16 GWh of existing NMC production capacity and a large R&D campus under Lyten’s control, with a rehiring program targeting more than 600 workers. Lyten will keep producing NMC cells for automotive and stationary customers while preparing the sites to industrialise its lithium‑sulphur technology and launch an “Industrial Hub” that will co‑locate battery manufacturing with AI data centres powered by clean hydro. The acquisition makes Lyten one of Europe’s largest battery manufacturing campuses, though the planned takeover of the German Heide factory remains pending.
