Teatro Nacional De São Carlos to Present First Lisbon ‘Tannhäuser’ in Over 30 Years
The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos will stage Wagner’s Tannhäuser in Lisbon on April 23 and 25, 2026, marking the city’s first production of the opera in more than three decades. Directed by Max Hoehn, the staging draws on early‑20th‑century German graphic art to create a dark, dream‑like world, and features the Viennese version of the work. The cast includes tenor Jonathan Stoughton in his debut as Tannhäuser, soprano Annemarie Kremer as Venus, and baritone André Baleiro as Wolfram, with Graeme Jenkins conducting the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa.
