FCC Updates Covered List to Exempt Certain DronesFrom Restrictions, Releases Additional FAQs
The FCC announced an update to its Covered List, exempting certain uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) and critical components from national‑security restrictions until Jan. 1 2027. The exemption applies to items on the Defense Contract Management Agency’s Blue UAS Cleared List and those qualifying as domestic end products under the Buy American Standard. Entities can still seek individual Conditional Approvals by emailing drones@fcc.gov. Existing devices that already hold FCC equipment authorizations remain legal to import, sell, and use.
