The Association for Advancing Automation, or A3, today announced the full publication of the American National Standard for Industrial Robots and Robot Systems — Safety Requirements. Released on Oct. 29, 2025, the comprehensive 403-page document completes a three-part framework designed to govern the safe manufacture, integration, and use of industrial robotics.

Document integrates national, international standards

The new documentation, categorized under reference numbers ANSI/A3 R15.06-2025 and ANSI/A3 R15.06-3-2025, combines three distinct parts under one cover to ensure they are used together.

A3 updates safety requirements

The standard provides updated guidelines across three specific areas:

  1. Safety requirements for industrial robots

  2. Safety requirements for industrial robot applications and robot cells

  3. Safety requirements for the use of industrial robot cells (new)

The primary focus of the updated standard is the emphasis on risk assessment and the establishment of stringent personnel safety protocols, said Ann Arbor, Mich.-based A3. It provides a technical roadmap for manufacturers, system integrators, and end users to maintain safety in industrial environments.

The complete three-part standard is currently available for purchase as a PDF download through the A3 online store.
