U.S. MANUFACTURERS reported a moderate expansion of business activity for the third month running in March. The Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index edged up to 52.7 (50th percentile for all months since 2000). The index has been above the 50-point threshold dividing expanding activity from a contraction every month since January after falling below the threshold for 10 months straight last year and in 36 of the previous 38 months:
