Five Practical Habits for Executives to Build AI Fluency
I attended an executive AI webinar last week. Great premise. Strong presenter. Then someone asked: “How should busy executives build AI literacy?” The answer… vague. That question deserves a practical answer, So, I wrote mine - 5 habits that work without needing a technical background → Go to AI before you go to your team. Use it to answer real business questions first. → Ask someone on your team to walk you through their actual workflow, not a polished demo. → Put AI on your staff meeting agenda every week. Five minutes is enough. Rotate who shares. There are two more habits I recommend in my latest Inc. Magazine article. Oh, the last one is the hardest, and arguably the most valuable. It requires leaders to dig into a workflow step by step until they truly understand what AI can automate, what AI agents can own, and where human judgment still matters. AI fluency isn't about knowing the tech. It's about knowing enough to allocate resources, ask sharper questions, and lead your team with confidence. It’s about understanding enough to be dangerous.
