Building a Life: Prioritizing Family Over Business Metrics
I’ve spent years building companies. Raised millions. Sold a company for $169M... Then you realize this is the thing you’ve been building for all along.... For most of my career, building meant companies. - Products - Teams - Revenue - Exits The usual founder scoreboard. And I loved it. I still do. But life has a way of changing how you think about what 'building' actually means. • Getting married. • Becoming a parent. • Watching two little humans grow up faster than you expected. It makes you look at everything differently. Because family doesn’t build itself. It requires the same things entrepreneurship does: • time • patience • intention • showing up consistently Morgan and I call our home the LuvBubble. A place where presence matters more than productivity, and where we try to design our lives so the people we love most don’t get whatever time is left over. These days, I still build companies. But I shape my work so I can be there for the moments that matter: • family dinners • afternoons at home • bath time and bedtime stories • the small moments that don’t look important until they’re gone Companies grow, pivot, and sometimes disappear. Childhood doesn’t work that way. Apollo and Auryn will only be this age once, and that’s something I don’t want to miss while chasing the next milestone. After two decades of entrepreneurship, I’ve realized something simple: You can build great companies. But the real work is building a great life around the people you love. And for me, that’s what this photo represents. --- Today, I run these private communities that might help you: → SaasRise : for founders scaling from $1M to $100M → GrowthRise: for B2B Sales and Marketing leaders I also run: → Pulse: reinventing the daily newspaper in the age of AI (link in comments)
