06-032026 WG-BEAR Regular Meeting
Why It Matters
Clarifying governance and SIG coordination keeps the working group operational while leaders are away, while the push to document security practices and build outreach playbooks is crucial for scaling OpenSSF initiatives in under-resourced regions, unlocking contributor growth and more effective tooling adoption.
Summary
The WG-BEAR working group held a routine meeting to confirm interim co-chair arrangements while Marcela is away, onboard a new member (Raul), and review agendas and logistics for upcoming calls and SIG interactions. Members clarified that the DevRel/Zebra SIG runs its own monthly calls (next on June 11) but will coordinate via Slack, and discussed integrating DevRel participation with WG-BEAR activities as needed. A major focus was regional outreach: participants reported progress and plans for Africa (including collaboration outreach to CodeRoot in Gambia), interest in expanding efforts to Latin America and Japan, and the need to capture lessons from recent events into a repeatable community-engagement playbook. Attendees also flagged a lack of documented security processes in African open-source communities and proposed webinars and research to improve contribution pathways and tooling fit for low-resource environments.
