The project could catalyze economic diversification in Barbados, creating tech‑driven jobs and establishing the island as a competitive fintech destination in the Caribbean.
At Money20/20 USA 2025, Marilyn Brathweight, chief of staff for Space Technologies Inc. in Barbados, outlined the company’s strategy to transform the Caribbean nation into a fintech hub.
She highlighted Barbados’ 50‑year‑old, stable banking sector, supportive fintech legislation, and an abundant pool of university graduates as core assets. Space Technologies Inc. is among the first fintech firms on the island, leveraging a phased plan that includes pre‑implementation budgeting, infrastructure support from its global headquarters, and targeted hiring from local banks.
“Barbados has a very strong banking ecosystem… bringing fintech to Barbados is a really nice fit,” Brathweight said, noting cross‑training initiatives that allow Barbadian staff to cover roles worldwide. The firm’s sleek office and branding further reinforce its visibility in a small market.
If successful, the initiative could generate high‑skill jobs, diversify the island’s financial services, and position Barbados as a model for other small economies seeking to attract fintech investment, while expanding Space Technologies’ global talent pool.
