New Figures Reveal 7 Million Started a New Job in 2025
HM Revenue and Customs reported that more than 7 million people began new employment in 2025, a rise of 300,000 over the prior year. The data coincides with National Careers Week, during which HMRC is urging job‑seekers to download its mobile app for instant access to National Insurance numbers, PAYE details and tax codes. The app attracted 2.7 million new users in 2025, with popular features including PAYE history, tax calculators and digital NI storage. Spring saw a hiring surge, with 1.8 million starts between April and June alone.
