Why It Matters

The new AI‑ready centre alleviates Singapore’s tight data‑centre supply, accelerating AI adoption for enterprises. It also signals rapid growth in Southeast Asia’s data‑infrastructure market, backed by substantial private‑equity investment.

Key Takeaways

  • •DC Tuas delivers 58 MW, Singapore’s largest data centre capacity.
  • •Over 90% of capacity pre‑leased before launch.
  • •Facility features liquid cooling for high‑density AI workloads.
  • •Nxera aims to double regional capacity to 400 MW by 2026.
  • •KKR holds 20% stake, boosting capital for expansion.

Pulse Analysis

Singapore has long grappled with a scarcity of data‑centre space, a situation cemented by a moratorium on new builds that began in 2019. As global AI models grow in size and enterprises shift workloads to the cloud, the island‑nation’s limited power and land resources have become a bottleneck for digital transformation. Recent regulatory softening has opened a narrow window for operators that can deliver high‑density, energy‑efficient facilities. In this environment, providers that combine scale with advanced cooling technologies are uniquely positioned to capture the burgeoning AI and hyperscale demand.

The launch of Nxera’s DC Tuas marks a decisive step in meeting that demand. The eight‑storey, 120,000‑square‑foot campus offers 58 MW of power, making it Singapore’s largest‑capacity centre, and more than 90% of its space was pre‑leased before the doors opened. Its liquid‑cooling architecture supports direct‑to‑chip cooling, allowing higher compute density while maintaining a low PUE, a critical factor for AI training and inference workloads. By consolidating smaller legacy sites, Singtel is also streamlining operations and improving overall energy efficiency across its portfolio.

The facility’s debut is bolstered by a $800 million investment from private‑equity firm KKR, which now owns a 20% stake in Nxera. This capital infusion not only validates the business case for high‑performance, AI‑ready infrastructure but also fuels Nxera’s aggressive regional rollout, targeting 400 MW of capacity by 2026 with new sites in Batam and Johor. Competitors will need comparable power density and sustainability credentials to stay relevant. For enterprises, the expanded supply of premium data‑centre capacity in Singapore promises lower latency, faster AI model deployment, and a stronger foothold in the Asia‑Pacific digital economy.

Singtel's Nxera opens Singapore data center

58 MW of capacity online in the city‑state · February 09, 2026 · by Dan Swinhoe

Singtel has launched a new data center in Singapore.

Nxera, Singtel Group’s regional data‑center arm, this week announced the opening of DC Tuas, its largest facility in Singapore.

With 58 MW of capacity, the company claimed DC Tuas is Singapore’s highest‑capacity data centre.

The addition of the 120,000‑square‑foot (11,148 m²), eight‑storey facility brings Nxera’s total capacity in the city‑state to 120 MW.

Singtel broke ground on the data centre in August 2023, with the facility originally set to go live in 2025.

More than 90 percent of the multi‑tenant facility’s capacity was pre‑leased before launch. The site supports liquid cooling and reportedly hosts Singapore’s largest direct‑to‑chip liquid deployment.

Bill Chang, CEO of Nxera and Singtel’s Digital InfraCo unit, said:

“The opening of our new AI‑ready data centre, DC Tuas, is an important milestone for Nxera as we expand our role in enabling AI innovations in Singapore. The ability to deploy higher‑density, compute‑intensive AI workloads sustainably is increasingly critical for a strategic market where data‑centre capacity is constrained.”

He continued:

“As Singapore’s highest power density, most energy‑efficient, and largest liquid‑cooled multi‑tenanted data centre, DC Tuas reinforces the country’s position as a global AI hub and supports accelerating AI adoption.”

Singtel’s Tuas cable landing station, located at 9 Tuas Avenue 3, is the landing point for the i2i, SJC, ADC, and the SMW3, 4, 5, and 6 cables.

Singtel is closing a number of small legacy data centres in Singapore, but still operates several large facilities in the city‑state through its Nxera unit.

Nxera is also developing several facilities around Southeast Asia in partnership with local players and expects to grow its total capacity from 200 MW to 400 MW in the coming years. With more facilities in Batam and Johor due online in the second half of 2026, Nxera’s operational and pipeline capacity is expected to more than double from 200 MW in 2026.

Investment firm KKR acquired a 20 percent stake in Singtel’s data‑centre business for US $800 million in 2023. KKR and Singtel recently acquired a majority stake in APAC data‑centre STT GDC.

Singapore has had a moratorium on new data‑centre developments since 2019 (although already authorised facilities were allowed to be built after this point), but this is starting to be relaxed.
