Summary

Bradley Roberts, CEO of Neuromatch, outlined how the nonprofit is constructing a worldwide ecosystem for NeuroAI education and research. Neuromatch operates under three strategic pillars—Neuromatch Academy, career development, and field‑building—delivering intensive, synchronous two‑to‑three‑week courses in computational neuroscience, deep learning, and NeuroAI that are co‑created by hundreds of global academics. The Academy’s tuition is indexed to GDP per capita and paired with scholarships, enabling participation from more than 13,000 learners across 130+ countries, with 86% citing direct career impact and 44% of participants identifying as women, well above field averages.

The organization’s career‑development arm centers on the Impact Scholars program, a six‑month, part‑time mentorship that pairs 75 scholars annually with 20‑25 expert supervisors to produce citable micro‑publications. Since 2023, 134 scholars from 31 nations have completed the program, generating 35 open‑research papers and earning travel awards to present at conferences such as the Bernstein Computational Neuroscience Meeting. Alumni frequently return as teaching assistants, reinforcing a self‑sustaining talent pipeline and expanding professional networks.

Neuromatch’s field‑building initiatives, including the newly launched AI Sentient Scholars program, aim to convene interdisciplinary teams to tackle AI‑driven challenges, further cementing its role as a catalyst for global collaboration. By scaling high‑quality, inclusive training and linking education to tangible research outputs, Neuromatch is reshaping how computational neuroscience talent is cultivated and retained worldwide.

For industry, academia, and policy makers, Neuromatch demonstrates a viable model for democratizing advanced AI and neuroscience skills, accelerating innovation while addressing diversity gaps. Its growing virtual research institute concept promises a distributed, yet coordinated, hub of expertise that could influence future funding, hiring, and collaborative norms across the NeuroAI landscape.
