The tier shifts redefine tournament strategies and signal SNK’s commitment to a dynamic meta, affecting player investment and viewership interest.
The Season 2 patch for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves introduces sweeping nerfs and buffs that immediately altered character viability. By reducing Hotaru’s damage output and tweaking frame data, SNK removed the long‑standing monopoly on high‑level play, while Hokutomaru received faster startup and expanded mix‑up tools, propelling him to the apex of the tier list. These adjustments reflect a broader industry trend where developers use post‑launch patches to keep fighting games fresh and competitive.
Alioune’s early impressions provide a roadmap for pros and casual players alike. With Hotaru now a mid‑tier option, tournament decks are expected to diversify, encouraging experimentation with previously underutilized characters such as Tizoc, who climbs out of the absolute bottom. Conversely, Kain’s steep decline forces players to reassess their main‑character investments, potentially shifting the prize pool distribution in upcoming events. The rise of guest fighters Ken and Chun‑Li, especially Chun‑Li’s entry into the A+ tier, adds cross‑franchise appeal and may attract fans of Street Fighter to the Fatal Fury scene.
From a business perspective, the rapid tier rebalancing demonstrates SNK’s proactive approach to community feedback, a critical factor for longevity in the esports ecosystem. Maintaining a fluid meta sustains viewer engagement, drives in‑game purchases of skins and DLC, and fuels tournament sponsorships. As the competitive community digests these changes, future patches will likely fine‑tune the balance further, ensuring that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves remains a vibrant platform for both players and investors.
The Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves · Alioune’s Post‑Patch Tier List

SNK recently begun Season 2 for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Fans have been eagerly awaiting balance updates as Kain, Hokutomaru and especially Hotaru were just absolutely dominating the meta and tournament scene.
It's only been a short while since the Season 2 patch was dropped, but it would seem that Alioune has already established some early impressions on character power levels. He recently released a new tier list that gives an indication on where he thinks everyone could end up in the new meta.
It's very clear that Hotaru has seemingly been knocked down a peg. Instead of being the undisputed best character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, she's now about the sixth‑best fighter.
Kain was apparently affected pretty hard with the patch since he went from being the third strongest to one of the worst overall. Hokutomaru, who was generally seen as the second‑best character, has risen to the very top of the tier list.
Street Fighter guests Ken and Chun‑Li are looking a lot better in Fatal Fury as well. Chun‑Li in particular is now sitting pretty at the bottom of A+ tier.
Tizoc could potentially see a significant rise in performance as he's no longer the absolute worst combatant anymore. However, fans of the latest DLC character, Kim Jae Hoon, will seemingly be in for a struggle since he's now ranked at the bottom.
