The long‑term deal secures a proven champion, reinforcing G2’s talent pipeline and sponsor appeal while shaping LEC competitive dynamics. It signals a strategic shift toward internal development over external imports.
The extension of Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan’s contract through November 2028 marks a rare long‑term commitment in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC). After a breakout rookie season that saw him narrowly miss Rookie of the Year and claim MVP honors in every playoff series, Skewmond has become a cornerstone of G2’s jungle. His aggressive playstyle helped the team capture the 2025 LEC title and even influenced the meta by popularising the Mundo jungle build. Securing his services for four more years signals confidence in his continued impact on both domestic and international stages. The deal also locks in a marketable star for G2’s sponsorship portfolio. G2’s decision to lock in Skewmond also reflects a broader shift toward cultivating homegrown talent. Earlier this year the organization unveiled G2 Nord, an academy squad partnered with Nord Esports, aimed at developing prospects such as North American mid‑lane star Victor “Toasty” Chea. By extending a player who rose through the ranks, G2 reinforces its pipeline and reduces reliance on external imports. This strategy aligns with the franchise’s long‑term vision of brand stability, fan engagement, and a sustainable competitive edge in an increasingly talent‑driven LEC environment. Such investments are expected to boost G2’s visibility across European streaming platforms. Despite the roster stability, G2’s early 2026 LEC campaign has been uneven, sitting 5‑4 and tied for fourth place after a surprising loss to Los Ratones. The team’s relaxed start may be a calculated trade‑off, allowing Skewmond and Caps to refine synergy ahead of the playoffs. If the squad can translate its individual brilliance into consistent results, the extended contracts could position G2 as a perennial contender for the 2027 title. Analysts will watch whether this stability translates into deeper playoff runs.

G2 Esports have signed jungler Rudy ‘SkewMond’ Semaan to an extended contract that will keep him with the LEC team until 2029.
After making the LoL Worlds Quarter‑finals last year, G2 kept the same LEC roster for the 2026 season. And now the organisation has shown a lot of faith in Skewmond to extend his contract for a third and fourth year.

Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan (G2 Esports) contract end date was changed from November 16, 2026 to November 20, 2028

Skewmond’s contract was set to expire in November this year, but has now been extended until November 20th, 2028. His contract now extends past the rest of his teammates, even Rasmus ‘Caps’ Winther.
Mid‑lane superstar Caps has been with G2 since 2019 and recently re‑signed to extend his stay for the 2027 season.
An intelligent player, Skewmond slowly settled in throughout the year and showed great form towards the end of last season.

He had large shoes to fill, replacing current Karmine Corp jungler Martin ‘Yike’ Sundelin. Yet, Skewmond barely missed out on the LEC Rookie of the Year award after a solid debut season. Voting took place during the regular season, while the Frenchman shone in the Playoffs that followed.
In fact, Skewmond was named MVP in all three Playoff series G2 played on their way to the LEC title. He then played relatively well at Worlds and even helped redefine the meta by popularising Mundo jungle.
With Caps further into his career, G2 are perhaps placing a heavier focus on developing their own talent. At the start of the year, G2 announced its new LoL academy team, G2 Nord, in partnership with former NLC org Nord Esports. The team is set to compete in Germany and the surrounding countries’ Prime League with highly‑rated North American mid‑lane prospect Victor Alexander ‘Toasty’ Chea.
That aged well

Reigning LEC champions G2 may have kept the same roster, but the organisation has struggled in the early stages of 2026. With just two games left of the LEC Versus regular season, G2 sit tied for fourth with three other teams due to their 5‑4 record. The best‑performing teams in the league, KCorp, Giantx, and Movistar KOI have all bested G2 so far.
Last week, they also surprisingly lost to Los Ratones in possibly the most‑watched LEC best‑of‑one ever. Even in G2’s last match against Team Vitality, they struggled to close out the game and nearly threw away a substantial gold lead.
It’s possible G2 are taking a relaxed approach to the start of the year but will have to perform much better than they have done to make a deep Playoffs run.
