Why It Matters

The delistings underscore the fleeting nature of digital licenses, affecting player investment and prompting publishers to rethink long‑term service strategies.

Key Takeaways

  • •Genshin Impact delisted Feb 25, services end Apr 8.
  • •The Finals loses online services March 18.
  • •WBSC eBaseball offline March 31, new version promised.
  • •WWE 2K24 online disabled March 31, offline still playable.
  • •Players must migrate progress to PS5 or other platforms.

Pulse Analysis

The recent wave of delistings on the PlayStation Store reflects a broader industry shift toward time‑bound licensing agreements. Publishers often negotiate limited‑term digital rights, and when contracts expire, titles disappear from storefronts regardless of player demand. This practice, while financially pragmatic for rights holders, introduces uncertainty for consumers who expect perpetual access to purchased games. As more titles become subject to removal, the PlayStation ecosystem must balance revenue considerations with the need for transparent communication about content longevity.

For gamers, the immediate concern is preserving progress and trophy collections. Both Genshin Impact and The Finals allow cross‑generation migration to PS5, but only if users retain the same account credentials. Once online services are disabled, any trophies tied to multiplayer or live‑event achievements become irretrievable, effectively capping a player’s completionist potential. Offline modes remain functional for WWE 2K24 and WBSC eBaseball, yet the loss of online features diminishes replay value and community engagement, prompting players to seek alternatives or archive their experiences before cut‑off dates.

Looking ahead, the pattern of delisting live‑service games may influence development roadmaps and consumer expectations. Studios might prioritize evergreen titles with robust offline components or negotiate longer digital distribution windows to maintain brand loyalty. Meanwhile, platform holders like Sony could explore subscription models or cloud‑based preservation solutions to mitigate the impact of content removal. Ultimately, the industry’s handling of digital ephemerality will shape trust levels among gamers and dictate how future titles are marketed and supported.

In this digital era of PlayStation gaming, content is becoming more ephemeral, with titles pulled on and off the PS Store as a publisher pleases. That will affect several games over the next couple of months, with some major names among them.

Here’s everything you need to know:

  • Genshin Impact (PS4): 25 February (Delisted); 8 April (Online Services Disabled)

  • The Finals (PS4): 18 March (Online Services Disabled)

  • WBSC eBaseball: Power Pros (PS4): 31 March (Online Services Disabled)

  • WWE 2K24 (PS5, PS4): 31 March (Online Services Disabled)

In the case of Genshin Impact, probably the most important game here, you will be able to transfer your progress to PS5, or another platform like PC or mobile. Make sure you’re using the same account, though, of course. Any trophies you’re missing will remain unobtainable, as the game requires an Internet connection. If you’ve been playing mainly on the PS5 and earning trophies there, it may be worth downloading and logging in on the PS4 version, just to automatically pop any gongs you’ve already unlocked elsewhere.

The situation is similar with The Finals, which is a live‑service game. Again, you’ll be able to transfer your progress to the PS5 version, which will remain playable for the foreseeable future.

Konami has said that it’s plotting a new version of WBSC eBaseball to release in the future, but for now you’ll have to live without Power Pros.

WWE 2K24 was already delisted from the PS Store earlier in the year, but this will conclude its complete takedown, with its online features disabled. While you will still be able to play some modes offline, this will affect trophies, so keep that in mind.
