Telefónica Germany announced the integration of narrowband satellite links into its 5G IoT portfolio, positioning satellite as a natural extension rather than a threat. The hybrid connectivity model lets devices switch between cellular and satellite networks to cover gaps in remote or economically unviable areas. Partnerships with Skylo, OQ Technology and Starlink provide GEO, LEO and broadband options, all bundled under a single contract. The company’s Kite platform converts satellite data for Azure and AWS, simplifying cloud integration for enterprise customers.
