Why It Matters

The mocking of Trump’s address reveals waning U.S. influence in the region and highlights Iran’s ability to leverage the Hormuz chokepoint, potentially driving up global oil prices and reshaping Middle‑East policy calculations.

Key Takeaways

  • Iranian media mock Trump's claim of victory publicly
  • Tehran emphasizes continued missile, drone strikes despite battlefield losses
  • Iran leverages Hormuz chokepoint to influence global oil prices
  • Trump's address offered no new strategy for ending the conflict
  • U.S. diplomatic tone stays measured while media criticism intensifies

Summary

The video highlights how Iranian outlets publicly ridiculed former President Donald Trump’s recent address, framing his remarks as an admission of defeat. A leading Iranian news site ran the headline “I lost – and I lost badly,” signaling a shift from diplomatic restraint to overt mockery.

Trump’s speech, according to the analysis, offered no fresh policy or military update, merely reiterating that the United States was “winning” and that the war was nearing completion. In contrast, Tehran pointed to continued missile and drone launches against U.S. bases, Israeli targets, and the ongoing operation of its nuclear program, suggesting that Iran still commands significant regional leverage.

The report cites the foreign ministry’s measured dismissal of the address, while domestic media seized on the “lost” narrative. It also underscores Iran’s strategic advantage at the Strait of Hormuz, which it can use to pressure global oil flows and U.S. gasoline prices.

These dynamics erode U.S. credibility in the Middle East, raise the risk of further escalation, and could translate into higher energy costs worldwide, compelling policymakers to reassess diplomatic and military options.

Original Description

From Tehran's point of view, US President Donald Trump said nothing new in his primetime address to the nation as he attempted to convince the American public that the US was winning the Iran war, says FRANCE 24's correspondent in the Iranian capital Reza Sayah. "You can argue (the Iranians have more leverage than ever now with the chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz and therefore on the global economy (...) And that's why Tehran sees itself in the driver's seat," Sayah explains.
