Summary

The video follows Fatima, a twelve‑year‑old living in Gaza, as she walks viewers through her daily reality amid ongoing conflict. She opens the door to a shattered home, a roof riddled with holes, yet she has strung colorful decorations and reclaimed a sense of normalcy for herself and her sister.

Fatima details how her family has turned to repairing mobile phones to generate income, a modest enterprise that sustains them despite the blockade. She points out the soaring cost of basic staples—rice, chicken, cooking gas—and notes that humanitarian aid barely covers these essentials. The footage also captures the bomb‑scarred streets that once served as a playground for her and her friends, underscoring the physical devastation surrounding her.

Throughout the tour, Fatima shares poignant remarks such as, “We will remain steadfast no matter what,” while showing her family preparing traditional dishes like maqluba and crepes without gas, using improvised stoves. She also highlights the community’s determination to celebrate Ramadan, hanging lights and sharing meals despite the hardships.

The narrative illustrates the extraordinary resilience of Gaza’s civilian population, emphasizing that ordinary life persists even under siege. Fatima’s personal testimony humanizes the conflict, urging viewers and policymakers to consider the urgent need for sustained humanitarian support and a durable resolution to the crisis.

Original Description

Climbing the damaged cinderblock stairs, 12-year-old Fatima invites viewers into what remains of her family's home in the Gaza Strip. "This is my room," she says proudly. "It was destroyed, but despite all that, even if the ceiling has leaks, I decided to be happy and I hung decorations."
In this self-made video, Fatima offers an intimate glimpse into life affected by war: a pink-painted bedroom damaged by bombardment, a living room now used as a charging station for neighbors' cellphones — the family's only source of income.
Three times a week, Fatima goes to a UNICEF-supported learning space in a tent, alongside other children from her neighborhood. In Fatima’s world, the hum of drones has replaced silence, becoming the constant soundtrack of childhood for nearly 1 million children living in the Gaza Strip. Yet Fatima’s voice remains strong, inviting us not just to witness loss, but to see resilience and the fragile hope of what still can be rebuilt.
"I am proud to be a girl from Gaza," she says. "And I want to send a message: We will remain strong, no matter what happens."
