NWT Study Maps Critical Minerals Potential

The Northwest Territories government released the 2025 Mineral Potential Study, mapping critical mineral potential across the eastern Slave Geological Province. The assessment evaluated 1,721 mineral showings, covering 19 of Canada’s 34 critical minerals and identified 116 new occurrences. Officials say the data strengthens the case for major infrastructure projects such as the Arctic Economic and Security Corridor and Taltson hydro expansion to lower costs and enable development. The study arrives as the territory’s diamond industry contracts, prompting a shift toward diversification through critical minerals.
