Borderlands Mexico: Violent Cargo Theft Grips Mexican Truckers, Overhaul Report Finds

Overhaul’s 2025 Annual Cargo Theft Report shows that 82% of cargo theft incidents targeting Mexican truckers involved violence, with armed interceptions and driver assaults commonplace. While the central region remains the hotspot, the West’s share of thefts rose 7% in 2025, offset by a 9% decline in the Center. Interceptions of moving trucks fell 12% year‑over‑year, but thefts of parked vehicles jumped 12%, especially at roadside diners and fuel stops. The findings underscore heightened risk for cross‑border logistics, particularly for auto parts and fuel shipments.
