Bitcoin slipped under the $65,000 psychological barrier on June 3, sparking a 12% weekly decline. US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Could Lose 30% in One Ruling as Bitfinex Battle Intensifies
The U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is reported to hold about 328,372 BTC, valued at roughly $21.6 billion. Approximately 94,643 of those coins are tied to the 2016 Bitfinex hack and are subject to a court‑ordered restitution that could remove about 30 % of the reserve without any sale. If the assets are returned to Bitfinex, the exchange plans to use 80 % of them to repurchase and burn its LEO token, creating a potential $5 billion buy‑back pipeline. Analysts warn that the headline “30 % loss” may move markets more through perception than actual Bitcoin supply changes.
