Personal Accountability Cleans up Stale Website Content
I worked with a university a few years back that had a problem most organizations have. Their website was full of outdated rubbish, and nobody would fix it. We tried something that probably sounds obvious in hindsight. Every page got assigned to an individual person, not a department. Their name went on it. We added a "was this useful?" button to each page. Feedback went straight to that named person. Then we built a dashboard showing which pages were getting hammered with "no" responses. If your page scored badly enough, it got automatically pulled from navigation and search until you fixed it. Turns out people care a lot more about quality when their name is attached to something. Department ownership just means nobody's really accountable. I'm sure there are plenty of valid reasons why this wouldn't work in some organizations (there always are). But it worked brilliantly there, and I keep thinking about how much simpler it is than all the governance frameworks and content strategies I've seen fail to move the needle. Sometimes the answer is just making it clear whose problem it is. #ContentStrategy #UXStrategy #Accountability
