Future: 70% Software Interactions Will Be UI‑Free
By 2027, 70% of software interactions will have no UI at all. That number stopped me when I first heard it. But the more I think about it, the more I believe it's directionally right. Salesforce just announced Headless 360. The whole idea is to expose every capability in their platform as an API, MCP tool, or CLI command so AI agents can operate the entire system without ever touching a browser. That's not a small product update. That's a fundamental rethink of who the customer is. For twenty years, the interaction model was simple: user, interface, database. You clicked buttons. Software responded. Repeat. Now it's: user's agent, database. The human is one step removed from the actual interaction. Supabase deployments are going parabolic right now because developers are building agent-native infrastructure. RAMP launched their MCP and immediately ran into an observability problem because they could see tool call volume but had no visibility into the surrounding chat context. That's the new debugging problem. Not broken buttons. Missing rationale on tool calls. Here's what I think product teams are getting wrong right now: they're still designing for humans first and bolting on an API later. That has to flip. The 80/20 I see coming is 80% agent interactions, 20% humans managing and monitoring those agents through a UI. The button isn't dead yet, but it's no longer the primary surface. If you're building software today and you haven't asked "how does an agent navigate this?" you're already behind.
