Occasional Use of Classic Psychedelics Linked to Enhanced Cognitive Flexibility in Young Adults
A cross‑sectional study of 136 young adults found that occasional use of classic psychedelics such as LSD and psilocybin does not impair overall cognition and may enhance mental adaptability. While test scores for memory, attention and processing speed were comparable to non‑users, psychedelic users outperformed controls on the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, indicating greater cognitive flexibility. The advantage grew with a higher number of lifetime psychedelic experiences. Researchers caution that the design cannot prove causation, but the findings challenge earlier concerns about neurotoxicity.
