Anthropic fixes Claude Code performance after temporary downgrade
Anthropic identified three separate changes that temporarily degraded Claude Code's performance and fixed them by April 20. The first change on March 4 lowered the default reasoning effort from high to medium, reducing intelligence and was reverted on April 7. A March 26 cache‑clearing bug erased session thinking on every turn, causing forgetfulness and higher token usage until corrected.
