
U.S. Diesel Stocks Hit 20-Year Low Amid Hormuz Closure
U.S. DISTILLATE STOCKS have fallen to the lowest for the time of year for more two decades as closure of the Strait of Hormuz creates a worldwide shortage of diesel and similar fuels. Since the war began, distillate inventories have depleted by more than 18 million barrels, the largest seasonal draw down since 2018, and well above the average draw of 9 million barrels over the last ten years. Inventories were 25 million barrels (-19% or -1.33 standard deviations) below the seasonal average on May 1 up from a deficit of 15 million barrels (-11% or -0.91σ) immediately before the war started:
