Off‑grid Solar Powers Dreams and Futures in Malawi
What does off-grid solar make possible for a family that has never had reliable electricity? In Lilongwe, Malawi, I spent time with Maya Stewart, cofounder of Yellow Malawi and one of the best entrepreneurs I've met, who is working in one of the toughest markets, and a Yellow customer, Chefundo, 18, who has big dreams of being a nurse and is doing the work to make it happen. This was part of a week in Malawi and Zambia with partners from @Acumen's Hardest-to-Reach coalition — more than 20 individuals and organizations investing in energy access for 72M people in 17 sub-Saharan African nations. I'm grateful to everyone, including the entrepreneurs, their communities and those they serve, for showing up with humanity and determination. And I'm excited to share more from the trip over the coming days.
