The most interesting announcement so far at the HP event is HP IQ. Until I use it and research it, I won’t render a verdict. Here’s what it is: ∙on-device AI orchestrator for commercial PCs. A unified software layer across EliteBook, ProBook, ZBook, and select desktops that combines an AI assistant, device connectivity, and consistent UI into one experience. ∙Processes files and queries locally, not in the cloud. Handles document analysis, meeting transcription, and contextual Q&A on-device via the NPU. HP claims up to $15K in cloud cost savings per 100 employees annually. ∙Connects HP devices locally via “NearSense.” Proximity-based discovery enables peer-to-peer file sharing, single-click meeting joins, and Poly room control from a laptop. This is HP’s ecosystem stickiness play. ∙Enterprise-managed through HP WXP and Microsoft Intune. IT controls deployment, AI feature policies, and data access through standard tools including Entra ID and SSO. ∙Rolling out Spring 2026, English-only at launch. Ships as a preloaded stub app on select commercial PCs, with broader availability later in 2026. Additional languages planned for future releases.
