Dark Reading reported that the npm package for Cline version 2.3.0 was compromised, causing it to silently download the OpenClaw tool during an eight‑hour window. The breach stemmed from a prompt‑injection flaw that allowed an attacker to steal release tokens and publish a poisoned package. Approximately 4,000 developers installed the tainted version before Cline issued an advisory and released a clean 2.4.0 build with OIDC‑based publishing. OpenClaw, while not overtly malicious, grants full‑disk access and runs a persistent WebSocket daemon, raising serious security concerns.
