Ukraine Backs Iranian People's Freedom, Condemns Tehran's Russia Alliance

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of 🇺🇦 reaffirms the consistent position of our state: we support the Iranian people and their legitimate aspiration to live in security, freedom, and prosperity. The Iranian regime, which for decades has oppressed its own people, has pursued a large-scale policy of violence against both its citizens and other countries. This includes mass human rights violations inside the country, support for militant groups that have spread chaos across the region, and direct military assistance to the aggressor state Russia in its unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine. We remember — and will never forget — the strikes of thousands of Shahed drones against our peaceful cities and civilians. Such cooperation between the regimes in Moscow and Tehran constitutes a gross violation of international law and undermines global efforts to restore peace and stability. Years of systemic human rights abuses, brutal repression, executions, and persecution of dissenters point to a deep internal political crisis in that state and the absence of proper protection of the fundamental rights and freedoms of its citizens. The regime has spent colossal resources on violence, killings, and chaos, rather than on providing for its own people, whose economic situation has continued to deteriorate year after year. As the President of Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized, the Iranian regime should have stepped aside long ago. The root cause of the current events lies precisely in the violence and arbitrariness of the Iranian regime, including the killings and repression of peaceful protesters, which have intensified significantly in recent months. We stress that the regime in Tehran had every opportunity to prevent a forceful scenario. It was offered opportunities for diplomacy and for seeking solutions, but it ignored these efforts and instead merely sought to buy time in the hope of misleading the international community. We reaffirm our unwavering position: we wish security, prosperity, and freedom to the Iranian people, as well as stability and prosperity to the Middle East. We thank everyone around the world who has supported and continues to support the Iranian people in this difficult time."
