In middle school we learned about the fall of the Shah and the Iran hostage crisis. I remember the lesson vividly because the teacher was frustrated I asked so many questions. I just could not wrap my head around civilian men with families staying in a country the embassy had ordered evacuated. Diplomats and military? Yes, stay, that’s your job, and it’s the military’s job to get you out. But some mid-level manager at an oil company? You’d have to be mentally ill to stay. Ten years later I was in India when everyone was certain Pakistan was going to launch nukes. The U.S. embassy was closed. Problem was getting out wouldn’t have been easy. I was in a remote corner of India and would have had to take a slow train to Mumbai. I did not want to travel toward the likely first strike. Happened to me two more times in my career. I stayed both times. The last time was right after North Korea conducted its second nuclear test then started hurling conventional missiles across the border. That time at least I was able to convince my company to develop an evacuation plan and put a fast ship on standby.
Freight from the midwest and rustbelt have been on fire, while the coastal cities have been very quiet. SONAR has been picking this up for the past two months - and it is a massive shift from the freight economy...

If you had bought KNX when we first started to talk about the freight market movement due to the compliance crackdown, you’d be up 50%. That is why SONAR’s fastest growing clients are financial firms and hedge funds. https://t.co/nW6G2BWC6n

I have zero doubt that we are seeing manufacturing starting to rip. Flatbed is naturally the first mode to signal it, as flatbeds haul heavy industrial raw materials. We talked about greenshoots a few weeks ago, and it was exciting, but...

I’ve submitted formal comments into the docket. My core message: supply diversification alone is not enough. If we want durable investment in allied lithium production and processing, we must address price volatility. Lithium’s boom-bust cycles have repeatedly delayed capital formation and midstream...

Lower tariff by US on Chinese goods. What will it mean to import supply chains? And to logistics? Especially container lines? A lot? Or not? Given soft CNY. @Lingling_Wei

There are plenty of offerings that have the same functionality and data as Bloomberg. But thr Bloomberg network (messaging) is the glue. No AI can replace that.

Trust the process, Dominic. These things take time. I mean, it took almost a CENTURY for protectionism to destroy the US shipbuilding industry. 😏

Those importers who sold their tariff claims to Lutnick’s sons were only paid 20-30 cents on the dollar. Getting into the trade early? Are real importers concerned about getting refunds? Why? Dragging it out?
